Dogs are the best!
Kaili, born on February 27, 2016, entered our lives as a 2-month-old puppy. A rescue dog from the SPCA Mission Campus, she was 2.87 Kilograms (6.3 lbs.) She would become our third dog and the wackiest, loving, cuddling of the trio. We had just said, “Goodbye to Cody, our Husky-Malamute who passed away at 13 years old; he enjoyed a great life. At first, we were adamant about not adopting a dog for a while, but after a visit to the adoption center, we left with a tiny, cute puppy. Now seven years later, she is fantastic. She saved my life because, in September 2022, I lifted her and strained my back, leading to X-rays, an MRI, CT-Scan, and Alan Mitchel Kramer, the oncologist who diagnosed that I had curable but aggressive cancer. Life can change in a hurry.
The SPCA called Kaili a shepherd/mix; she appears to be a mix of Rottweiler, German Shepherd, Doberman, and possibly Pit Bull; it doesn’t matter. She is so loving and full of zany behaviors. We took her to puppy training, where she played most of the time nicely. On one occasion, she was put into the penalty box for mischievous behaviors: not fighting but general rowdiness. She graduated and quickly adapted to Alice and me as we became a close-knit family. Adding to the chaotic household, we have a neighbor cat, Milo, who visits and eats his meals in our house. Kaili and Milo understand that she is the princess and he is the king. As princess of the house, Kaili rules the roost.
Alice and I have always had dogs from our teenage years until now. We wouldn’t like it any other way. Kaili enjoys two walks daily to McLaren Park, our favorite place. She is pretty social, and almost everyone wants to hug her, including the kids. She accepts behind-the-ear and back scratches on our romps and plays well with other dogs. Dogs are the best because they give unconditional love. Kaili is now 60 pounds and enjoys landing on her humans.
